Hanza is the founder and Executive Director of Africa Politicum. He holds a M.A. in Political History, a PhD in African history (Bayreuth University and the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS)) and also graduated from the French Institute for International and Strategic Affairs. He was honoured with the Federal Order of Merit in 2022 by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany and won the DAAD-Prize 2020 for his commitment within and beyond academia. Besides his research themes, Hanza is profoundly interested in intra-African socio political and economic dynamics, the broad political and economic relations between Westafrican French speaking countries and the European states, China, Turkey, Japan and the USA. Hanza is also co-founder of Model African Union Bayreuth e.V.
