Andreas Wüst

I am a PhD student in political science at the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS). In my thesis, I work on regime stability in North Africa with a special focus on Morocco and Tunisia. During my research I have developed a strong expertise in questions of national identity and nation building involving religion, language, and cultural heritage. I also have published articles on foreign policies of Maghreb states towards Europe as well as in the context of south-south cooperation with Sub-saharan Africa. Prior to my PhD, I studied Classics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and Université Paris IV Sorbonne. Beyond my academic work, I am regularly involved as an organiser and moderator for political and scientific conferences or panel discussions. Furthermore, I have contributed to several projects in the field of development cooperation with Tunisia and Morocco and worked for the German Permanent Mission at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva with a focus on the MENA region. After this, I was engaged as a PR officer at the Goethe Institute in Brussels where I got involved into the organisation of a conference on euroscepticism and radicalisation. Just before joining BIGSAS in April 2019, I was an editor trainee for social science books at the publishing house C.H. Beck and worked as a research assistant at German Bundestag. Thanks to this variety of experiences, I have established valuable expert networks in both, politics and academia around the globe.
